Restech Recruits Joel Richter, M.D. to All-Star Scientific
Advisory Board
SAN DIEGO, CA – Sept. 14, 2006 – Restech (Respiratory
Technology Corporation), San Diego
based innovator of the first airway reflux detection device, the
Dx pH Measurement System, is
pleased to announce the addition of Joel Richter, M.D. to its elite
Scientific Advisory Board
(SAB). Dr. Richter, former President of the American College of
Gastroenterology, hails from
Temple University where he is Chairman of the Department of Medicine.
An international leader in the advancement of esophageal and supraesophageal
reflux detection
and diagnosis, Dr. Richter was named to the peer-selected "America’s
Best Doctors" list in 2005
and was recognized in the 2006 Philadelphia Magazine Top Doctors
issue. He authored a
validation study of Medtronic’s Bravo pH System that helped
solidify the device as a
standardized esophageal pH measurement test. Restech expects similar
validation results with its
Dx–pH Measurement System to standardize airway pH.
“This is a novel pH electrode specially built to work in
the pharynx. We desperately need new
technology which will help identify the subset of GERD patients
where acid reflux is causing
their extraesophageal symptoms,” insists Dr. Richter.
With his clinical experience and proven track record, Dr. Richter
also brings a commanding
reputation to the current debate over the impact of reflux on the
esophageal and supraesophageal regions. The conflict pits otolaryngologists
against gastroenterologists:
“Currently, the extraesophogeal GERD area is a battlefield between ENT
and GI specialists with
our poor patients in between. We desperately need new technology to accurately
define those
patients with acid related laryngeal and pulmonary symptoms. This (Restech) technology
allows
segregation of these patients and successful enrollment in placebo controlled
PPI studies,”
declares Dr. Richter.
Rounding out Restech’s SAB: Tom DeMeester, M.D., Keck School of Medicine,
USC; Michael
Vaezi, M.D., Ph.D., Vanderbilt University Medical Center; Gregory Postma, M.D.,
Medical
College of Georgia; George Triadafilopoulos, M.D., Stanford University School
of Medicine; and
Gregory Wiener, M.D., private gastroenterology practice.
Restech will be attending the American Academy of Otolaryngology (AAO) Annual
Meeting and
exhibiting at the associated OTO EXPO, September 17-20, in Toronto, Canada at
booth 1310.
Restech is a leader in engineering world-class medical technologies that provide
comfortable,
reliable solutions to assist physicians in the diagnosis of reflux related health
problems. For more
