Restech Airway Reflux Detection System Recognized at Premier Laryngology Course on New Technology

NEW YORK, NY – June 12, 2007 – Restech exhibited its wireless Dx–pH Measurement system™ this past Saturday as part of the prestigious seminar “New Technology in Laryngology- The Spectrum of Office Based Procedures” at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary.

The single day hands-on seminar revolved around the prevalence of laryngopharyneal reflux (LPR) and the potential possibilities for its diagnosis.

With the absence of a specific test for LPR, Restech's Dx–pH Measurement System drew much attention. It is the first diagnostic device capable of detecting aerosolized and liquid reflux in the airway in real-time. While current pH measurement systems have been useful for diagnosing esophageal reflux, they are less effective when it comes to detecting aerosolized supraesophageal reflux, which can be very deleterious to the sensitive laryngeal tissue.

Michael Pitman, MD, co-director of the seminar commented, “This new technology has the possibility of revolutionizing reflux detection.”

Physicians are drawn to the minimally invasive Dx–System because of its simple visual placement in the back of the throat, above the uvula, making the patient experience exceedingly tolerable compared to conventional esophageal catheters. Patients can go about their normal day without being inhibited by the test, which fosters accurate results reflective of typical reflux episodes.

The hands-on demonstration section of the seminar provided visiting physicians with the opportunity to experience the technology in a laboratory setting. Interested physicians actually placed the probe on volunteers, allowing both the physicians and volunteers to feel the ease with which the Restech Dx–pH Probe is placed. New York based laryngologist and Dx–System user, Craig Zalvan, MD, said of the Dx–System’s clinical application:

“The [Dx–]System has helped change my treatment regimen to better fit the patients’ pattern of reflux and to actually diagnose whether or not my patients in fact have acid reflux.”

Restech is a leader in developing world-class medical technologies that assist physicians in the diagnosis of reflux related health problems. For more information on the Dx-pH Measurement System, please contact Debra Krahel (800) 352-1512 or visit http://www.retech-corp.com.
